Respected Madam,
I am writing to you regarding the candidature of Mr. SC. Jamir for the presidential post. Although he is not Chief Minister or Governor nor holding any Govt’s officer anymore, he continues with his selfless mission. He will be honored not only for his effectiveness and efficiency in administration as Chief Minister and Governor but also for his generous unceasing giving in the fight against poverty, unemployment and immortally and he has my respect as a moral and ethical person. In fact, Jamir is a very respectable person and a man of truth and principle and he is one of the true ideological descendents of our great people like Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi etc. the country needs people like him for the top job.
In more than half a decade since Independence, we have failed to bring the socially backward on a par with the rest. This means that we are yet to fulfill what Dr. B.R. Ambedkar who gave us our Constitution dreamed of making them (backward, Minority, tribal people) partners in the governance of this country and in building it. Why can’t we give them a chance for the country’s top post? Let them run the highest office of the country. Whatever be it, they will atleast have the satisfaction of having tried their hand against their fate, of having had an opportunity. Needless to say, they are also an integral part and parcel of the country.
Further, from the past many years after Independence the tribal population here in North Eastern region has been banking heavily on the Congress, and we (the tribals) has strong faith that this is the only one which would safeguard our interests. This belief will be badly shaken and cause tribals to feel alienated from the mainstream if Jamir is not chosen by the party for the country’s top job.
If India can really rejoice in becoming a rainbow nation; if India wants to boost her unique cultural identity ‘Unity in Diversity’, Mr. SC. Jamir should be given the top job for not only he belongs to a mongoloid race and tribal community but also as a man of integrity and honesty who can bring about the longdue change in our public life. During the past 65 years of Republic of India, while eminent personalities belonging to various communities and from other parts of the country have become the President of the country, North Eastern Region has been largely ignored. Let Jamir fill this gap and restored regional balance. An able administration, SC. Jamir is most suitable for the post of President.
I would be grateful if this matter is looked into at your level and justice is done to our tribals who have suffered through the millennia, and I hope, considering the situation, they (tribals) are now in, you will see and work to fight the challenges coming in way of ensuring social justice to one and all, especially the tribals, backwards and minorities.
