The 3 Naga Hills Battalion Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarter Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) today organised first ever lecture cum interactive session on organic farming between young scientist and farmers of Kohima and nearby villages. Peihauding Reunim, Botanist and his team of 12 members has taken a lecture on organic farming to soil Management, cultivation of crops, Post-Harvest Management & Marketing.
His team has given guidelines on “Grow Your Plants” to enhance the growth of indigenous plants in their home/backyards and fields.
They have also briefed farmers on how to take care of soil to produce crop in quality and quantity without any extra efforts and also emphasized on Post-Harvest Management so that fertility of soil doesn’t degrade. After letting all farmers know organic farming, they even touched upon Marketing of crops so that farmers can get good price of their crops.
The young scientists have ensured that all the farmers get benefits from their innovations of organic farming in agriculture field.
They also touched on the devices used to check the soil fertility and temperature which are very essential for all types of crops.
Some of the examples taken for better understanding were regeneration of tissue & enhancing growth of Rubber plant by applying organic healing paste and Bio-Enhancer. Cultivation of coffee plants & cardamom were also included to understand the subject in detail. Thereafter the emphasis was on subjects like Harvesting, Storage, Preservation, Packing and transportation.
Peilhanding and his team also harped upon the Govt Schemes available for farmers to access loan facilities at lower rates & other benefits from the Land resources department, Horticulture department etc.
They have highlighted the Central and State Government Schemes for betterment of farmers such as Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana, schemes under land resources, agriculture, Coffee Board of India and Spices Board of India.
Altogether, 78 farmers from Kohima village, Jotsoma, Phesama, Pfuchama, Viswema, Jakhama, Kigwema, Mima, Chedema and Meriema have been benefitted from this lecture cum interaction programme.
Similar event will also be organized by Assam Rifles at Phek, Kipheri, Pfutsero and Wokha in the coming days.
