SCPD inspects disability care centres in Dimapur and Chümoukedima

Kohima, March 31 (MExN): The Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (SCPD) conducted an official inspection on March 27 across three designated centres: Children with Special Needs Home, Chümoukedima, Prodigals Home, Fellowship Colony, Dimapur and Thikva Centre for Educational and Vocational Training for the Visually Impaired, Fellowship Colony, Dimapur.

The inspection was undertaken by a team of the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities comprising the Assistant Superintendent, Program Officer, and Program Coordinator, in accordance with its Office’s mandate to review the implementation of policies, programmes, and facilities for persons with disabilities.

As part of a proactive effort to safeguard the welfare and rights of children with disabilities, the visit focused on assessing living conditions, educational provisions, and vocational trainings standards available to the residents.

During the inspection, the officials engaged in detailed discussions with the management of each institution.

The key focus areas included ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016; conducting a comprehensive facility audit to assess infrastructure, living conditions, and support services; evaluating the effectiveness of educational and vocational training programmes; and identifying gaps in funding, staffing, or equipment that may require intervention from the concerned departments to enhance service delivery.
