SEC appoints observers for ULB by-elections

Kohima, May 16 (MExN): The State Election Commission has appointed election observers for the upcoming by-elections to three urban local body wards in Nagaland.

The Commission had earlier announced by-elections to fill casual vacancies in Ward No. 11 of Chümoukedima Town Council (CTC), Ward No. 8 of Wokha Town Council (WTC), and Ward No. 9 of Atoizu Town Council (ATC). 

Polling in the three wards is scheduled for June 16 from 7:30 am to 4 pm.

According to a notification issued by the Commission, Y Chingyak Konyak, Joint Secretary, DUDA, has been designated as observer for Ward No. 8 of WTC, while Moatemsu Sangtam, Joint Secretary, RD & MD, NSRLM, has been assigned to Ward No. 11 of CTC.

Keyirangding Hegue, Joint Secretary, Land Revenue, has been appointed observer for Ward No. 9 of ATC. Meanwhile, Theodore Yanthan and Zakabo V Rotokha, both Joint Secretaries, have been kept in reserve.

The SEC also informed that filing of nominations for the by-elections will be held from May 25 to May 29 till 3 pm, while scrutiny of nominations will take place on June 1. The last date for withdrawal of candidature has been fixed for June 5.

Counting of votes and declaration of results will be conducted on June 19 from 8 am onwards. The Commission further stated that the electoral roll published on April 12, 2024 under the Nagaland Municipal Election Rules, 2023 will be used for the elections.

Meanwhile, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into immediate effect within the jurisdiction of the three town councils, including the poll-bound wards, and will remain in force until completion of the election process.
