Kohima, April 16 (MExN): A Vegetable Collection Centre and Seed Bank were inaugurated at Nsong under Tening Block, Peren, on April 16.
Deputy Commissioner Peren, Hiazu Meru, said the initiative would enhance market access for farmers and promote self-reliance in agriculture. Prof Dr Akali Sema stressed the need to preserve indigenous seeds and promote sustainable practices.
Director of Pro Rural, Paul Lokho, highlighted the role of farmer collectives and sustainable agriculture, while FPO Nsong Village CEO Joshila Newme presented the activities of the organisation.
Local representatives said the initiative would strengthen rural livelihoods. The programme included interaction, exhibition and sale of traditional seeds and vegetables.
