Kohima | May 6 : A three day seminar on child protection for schools and church association, hosted by Nagaland Baptist church Council, was held here at the NBCC office that was facilitated by the office of Child Protection, Church of Christ in Thailand.
A team of ten members from Thailand are currently in the state capital to spread the awareness of child protection where the team will also hold a seminar with Khedi Baptist School, Mt. Sinai School and Baptist high school tomorrow.
Interacting with media persons at NBCC office, Advisor to General secretary on Ecumenical Affairs and Child protection, Church of Christ in Thailand, Rev. Michael Fucella said child abuse, be it social abuse, neglect, emotional, abuse, physical, abuse, sexual abuse, especially sexual abuse, can have long term effect on children in many ways – in terms of their relationships with others, their development mentally, emotionally and sexually. Michael opined that Nagaland state as a tourist open spot should have the knowledge to protect the child from Tourist/strangers and since this issue is very important, he opined the state government to take imperative steps to create awareness tying up with NBCC. Dealing with the effects of sexual abuse and to get emotional healings for victims are difficult and time consuming and in many cases virtually impossible, Michael said.
The church of Christ, Thailand team members included 90 year old man and will also visit some churches on Sunday. Altogether 40 participants from various associations, schools and churches are taking part in the three days seminar.
