Mokokchung, March 21 (MExN): A one-day seminar on modern agriculture technology was organised by the Japukong Senso Senden on March 16 at Longchem Town in Mokokchung District. The seminar was sponsored by the Department of Agriculture, Government of Nagaland.
Dr. Benjongliba Aier, Parliamentary Secretary, CAWD & Taxes, who was the chief guest of the seminar emphasised on the importance of agriculture in Nagaland in the absence of industrialization in the State.
He said that the bulk of the rural population depends on the agriculture. However, in spite of modern agriculture technology, the rural farmers are reluctant to adopt the new technology but still adopting the methods of cultivation which were practiced by our forefathers. “The old method is not only unproductive but also an environmental hazard in the age when the nation is trying to double up the production per unit area. This can be done only by adopting agricultural mehcanization, soil amendment, use of high quality hybrid seeds and planting materials, timely sowing, integrated insect-pest management, balanced nutrition, post harvest management, etc,” Dr. Aier stated.
It was stated in a press release that Nungsangkaba, DAO/PD ATMA, Mokokchung delivered the exhortation. Aliba Imchen was the main speaker while the resource persons were Meyasashi, DHO Mokokchung, Dr. Sashiyangba, DLRO Mokokchung and Imkongtemsu, Dy Director Mangkolemba.
