Lumami, October 5 (MExN): The Nagaland University’s Department of English organised a one-day regional seminar titled ‘Angami Folk Tradition: Myriad Aspects’ on October 3. This event brought together 30 research scholars and faculty members from various departments, stated a press release issued by PRO, Nagaland University, Lumami.
Addressing the inaugural session as the chief guest, Prof Rosemary Dzuvichu celebrated the rich cultural heritage of the Angami Nagas and encouraged participants to engage in comparative studies of Naga folklore and global folk traditions. Prof N Das, Head of the Department, outlined the seminar's objectives.Discussions during the seminar covered various facets of Angami folk traditions and similar folk traditions in the Philippines, Angami festivals and the symbolic role of animals, particularly the tiger.
The technical session was led by Dr R Vasanthan, with several scholars in the department actively researching the folk traditions of different Naga tribes. This reflects the department's commitment to organizing regional seminars focused on diverse folk traditions in the future.
