DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 6 (MExN): Inquiry into the September 1 mob violence in Dimapur is now complete. Well placed sources said that the four-man Fact Finding Committee, headed by Retired Director General of Prisons and Home Guards NN Walling finished compiling the report on Saturday, October 6. The findings or the report of the Committee will be submitted to the government on October 8.
Access to the Committee’s report however could not be made. Citing bureaucratic confidentiality and the sensitive nature of the case, the sources said that the minutes of the final report cannot be divulged till such time it reaches the Chief Secretary’s desk.
The Chief Secretary in a notification on September 2 appointed the Committee to inquire into the causes and circumstances that led to the incident; the person or group of persons responsible for the incident; whether the incident could have been avoided and how; whether there was any instance of failure or dereliction of duty on the part of any public servant in connection with the violent upheaval and how such occurrence may be avoided in future. The Committee was given a deadline of 30 days for the investigation.
