Mon, June 30 (MExN): A one-day teacher’s training on Tobacco Free Educational Institution (TOFEI) was conducted Sacred Heart School, Mon on June 30. 

Seven schools in Mon were declared as ‘Tobacco Free School’ and the TOFEI Certificate was handed over to the respective schools. The name of the schools declared as tobacco Free were- Sacred Heart School, Green Valley School, Green Mount School, Eastern School, Eastwood School, Police Unit School and Holy Cross School. 

According to a DIPR report, the training organized by District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) Mon consists of two sessions. The sessions were on ‘Adverse effects of Tobacco consumption’ and ‘TOFEI.’ District Nodal Officer, NTCP Mon, Dr I Simon Sumi, emphasized on how the use and consumption of tobacco products affects the human body. He also stressed on how the consumption of tobacco contribute in spreading Coronavirus in our community.

District Consultant, NTCP Mon, E Nyeamying Konyak briefed about guidelines of TOFEI. She elaborated on the criteria for the school to declare as tobacco free and the initiative an institution can take up after the declaration of ‘Tobacco Free School.’
A total of 27 teachers and head of the institution attended the training.
