Several organisations condemn rape and murder of minor in Dimapur

Dimapur, October 23 (MExN): Several civil society organisations on Friday condemned the alleged rape and murder of a minor girl in Dimapur’s Kacharigaon area and demanded exemplary punishment for the culprit(s). 

LEED: The Lotha Eloe Ekhung Dimapur (LEED) expressed shock and condemned the ‘abominable act,’ which it said, is devoid of human values. 

“There is no room for such a barbaric act in our society and as such the office urges upon the concerned authorities to investigate thoroughly and book the culprit/s under relevant sections of law and set the record straight that justice is supreme,” it said in a press release.

It also appealed to the general public to desist from sharing pictures, photos of the victim through various social media platforms as it amounts to breach of privacy and decency which is also punishable by an act of law under certain situations.

LSU: The Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) vehemently condemned the ‘barbaric incident’ in a press release on Friday, stating that such inhumane act of murder has no space in the Naga society.

Calling on all right thinking citizens to condemn such a heartless crime, the LSU appealed the law enforcing agencies to thoroughly investigate the case and book all those involved under appropriate sections of laws. It is also to be mentioned that the culprits apprehended should not be granted bail under any circumstances, it asserted.

The LSU also appealed to the general public to refrain from circulating photographs of the victim on various social media platforms to avoid legal action from the law enforcing agencies.

Further, the LSU cautioned law enforcing agencies that it would resort to any mode of agitation if the authority fails to provide justice as per the law. 

LHD: The Lotha Hoho Dimapur along with its community members expressed its condemnation and collective outrage at the brutal murder of the minor and demanded that law enforcing agencies immediately arrest the offender(s). Urging the law enforcing authorities to swiftly execute the investigation and award severe punishment as per the law without any leniency, the LHD asserted that “such barbaric act of antagonistic elements cannot be accepted as it has crossed all limits of human tolerance.” 

Such kind of reprehensible deeds have absolutely no place in society, it said while conveying condolences and extending solidarity to the bereaved family. 

DDCF: The Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum (DDCF) expressed shock and strongly condemned the ‘shocking and unthinkable’ crime in a statement on Friday. 

Stating that such crimes have no place in the society, it strongly appealed the concerned authorities to book the culprit(s) and punish them as per the law.

CEDOK: The Commission for Education Diocese of Kohima (CEDOK) meanwhile condemned the alleged rape and brutal murder of the minor girl in its statement received here on Friday.

“When such inhuman acts are committed in desecration of school campuses which are temples of learning, it can cause emotional fear in students and they reflect the degradation of the ethos of society,’ it said, while adding that the rising number of crimes against vulnerable sections of society is a sign of the lack of respect for human life and dignity and corroding of value system.

CEDOK appealed to everyone to stand together to fight against such crimes and prevent reoccurrence of such incidents in the future. 

LLR CSOs: The frontal organizations of Lotha Lower Range CSOs and NGOs, namely, the Lotha Lower Range People’s Organisation (LLRPO), Lotha Lower Range Elders and Officers Forum (LLREOF),The Lotha Lower Range Student’s Union (LLRSU), the Lotha Lower Range Union Dimapur (LLRUD), and Lotha Lower Range Union, Kohima (LLRUK)  vehemently condemned the alleged rape and murder of the minor girl stating that such dastardly act committed against an underage girl was beyond human comprehension.

The organisations appealed to the law enforcing authorities to leave no stone unturned till the culprit(s) are brought to justice.

It also expressed gratefulness to the various colony councils, the Lotha Hoho Dimapur and the LEED, individuals and other unions for voicing out for social justice its behalf. 

NWHD: The Naga Women Hoho Dimapur (NWHD) expressed shock and disgust over such the ‘barbaric and uncivilized’ crime and said that the incident has triggered fear and terror amongst the women in the society.

NWHD will not tolerate such sort of violence and crime that endangers the safety of women in our society, it said while appealing the law enforcing and investigating agencies to thoroughly investigate the case with utmost seriousness and make sure that the perpetrators are severely punished so that such acts are not repeated in the future.

Demanding justice for the victim, the NWHD stated that every girl and women should be able to live safely and feel protected.

Further, it extended solidarity to the bereaved family and prayed that God will give comfort and strength at this hour of sorrow. 

DNSU: Stating that such inhuman act is unacceptable in our peaceful society and the Union will never tolerate such kind of act towards its student community, the Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) vehemently condemned the barbaric act on Friday.

While appreciating the swift and quick action taken by the Police in nabbing one accused in this connection, the Union stated that thorough investigation and trial must be conducted by the authorities to reward befitting punishment to the culprits involved. Failure to do so, the students' community will be compelled to come out to the streets to show its strongest resentment, it said.

DNSU Secretary Women Affairs, Kevibeinuo Keditsu and Secretary Debate & Symposium, Chüthuzhüni Chache also expressed anguish over the ‘brutal and monstrous act,’ stating that it has tarnished the good image of the Naga Society and endangered the safety of women.

This sort of crime is not only committed against the victim and family but is also committed against all womenfolk and the society, it added.

The Union further urged the citizens to abstain from circulating identity of the victim and images of any such incident in social media unless done by the competent authorities. 

NSF: Expressing shock that “the life of a young and innocent student was rubbed in the bud by the evil actions of the criminals and that too within the premise of an educational institution,” the Naga Students' Federation (NSF) strongly condemned the incident.

The federation is deeply disturbed that commission of such a heinous crime are starting to seep into our Naga society, it said in a statement on Friday.

It appealed the police and investigating authority to leave no stone unturned and to ensure that the perpetrators of such a crime with unimaginable cruelty is brought to justice without any delay whatsoever. 

St Clare Hr Sec School: The school management board of St Clare Higher Secondary School, Kacharigaon (Phevima) strongly condemned the barbaric and horrific act and expressed sadness that “such an act against a human life could occur at the premises of an Institution where human life ought to be protected and nurtured.”

An evil act such as this should find no place in the hub of learning, it said in a statement on Friday. 

The board expressed its appreciation to the Village Councils of Kacharigaon, Indisen, AoYimkum, Senjum and Kashiram for their help and intervention, as well as the Women Cell, Dimapur Police, for their quick and timely response in arresting one person in connection with the crime.

At the same time, we also convey our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family of the victim and pray for the peaceful repose of the departed, it said, while appealing to the concerned authority to book the perpetrator(s) at the earliest and deliver justice to the victim.

NNF: The Nagaland NGOs Forum (NNF) expressed strong condemnation over the alleged rape and murder of the minor and appealed the law enforcing authorities to leave no stone unturned till the culprit/s are brought to justice.

DENSU: “The evil act committed against the child is beyond one’s imagination in a society. Perpetrators of such crime deserve nothing but as stringent as capital punishment. And such evil act should be condemned by all citizens as the same is not only inhuman but also a grave threat to humans in days to come,” the Dimapur Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union (DENSU) said on Friday. It also urged the law enforcing agency to investigate the matter at the earliest and requested that the matter be taken up in the fast track court and justice be delivered to the family members of the child.
