Kiphire, September 4 (MExN): Seyochung village and Akashvani Kohima jointly celebrated Mungmung 2026 at Seyochung, bringing together villagers, visitors, cultural groups and members of the Seyochung Village Union from different towns.
The celebration showcased the rich traditional culture and heritage of the Sangtam community through a range of folk activities, traditional games and cultural performances.
Folk songs including Phishü Khidong, Longmikhi, Machi Khidong and Fürü Thsü Khudong were presented, along with traditional activities such as Xuh la Müraküduba (bamboo pole climbing), Rangshü zing mülitaba (tug-of-war), Mihlaa mülihtaba (traditional fire ignition) and Shong ngumülitaba (top-spinning).
Speaking at the celebration, Seyochung Village Council Chairman Lichothri Sangtam said the partnership with Akashvani Kohima would help preserve and promote traditional culture through continued cooperation.
He welcomed villagers and members of the Seyochung Village Union who travelled from different towns to celebrate Mungmung together, besides tourists and visitors from different states.
Sangtam expressed hope that the visitors' experience would leave a positive impression and encourage more people to visit Seyochung.
Officials from Akashvani Kohima thanked the village for its hospitality and cooperation and appreciated their visit to the mithun farm at Singtra, describing the experience as “extraordinary” and the traditional practice of preserving the culture as “impressive”.
They encouraged Seyochung cultural groups to visit Kohima for recordings and assured that travel and other expenses for the recordings would be borne by Akashvani Kohima.
The officials also appreciated the enthusiasm of the villagers in welcoming guests and celebrating Mungmung, expressing hope that the festival would strengthen the partnership and create more opportunities for cooperation.
Visitors and members of the public said the celebration offered an opportunity to experience Sangtam culture while also generating income and revenue for local people.
They noted that the festival was not merely about tourism expenditure but was creating livelihood opportunities for the community, providing an encouraging boost to village tourism and the local economy.
The organising committee expressed gratitude to brand partners, supporters, village members, volunteers and others who contributed to the successful celebration of Mungmung 2026.
The celebration concluded with a renewed sense of community, cultural pride and optimism for stronger efforts to preserve and promote Seyochung’s traditional heritage.
