With the detection of COVID-19 positive cases from business establishment in Kiphire, the District Task Force (DTF) Kiphire has decided to close down business establishments for 72 hours, with effect from May 11.
The decision was taken during the DTF meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) conference hall on Monday.
During the meeting, Kiphire DC Wati Aier informed that 9 COVID-19 positive cases were detected after random testing was conducted. In this regard, he said that the closure of shops was imperative to enable the medical team to conduct proper testing and contact tracing and avoid the community spread.
DC Aier who is also the Chairperson of the DTF said that by May 17, shops will be open on alternate days and urged upon the citizens to cooperate with the administration, police and frontline workers.
Reminding the DTF members that COVID-19 can only be defeated with the joint efforts, the DC appealed the citizens to take responsibility and strictly adhere to SOPs issued by the government as no one is immune to the virus.
Highlighting the measures taken by the health officials in containing the virus in Kiphire, DPO Dr Pewezo Khalo that civil work construction for oxygen plant has started at the District Hospital Kiphire. He also added that random sampling and COVID-19 testing will continue and appealed to all health and frontline workers who are due for the second dose of vaccine to come forward for vaccination.
He also suggested that unit task force committees for COVID-19 be set up in wards, colonies and village level to assist the DTF for effective management.
Further, the house resolved to activate COVID Care Centres and institutional quarantine centres at Kiphire and Pungro and screening centres at Anatongre, Longmatra and Yangzitong junctions. Trucks and other carrying commodities coming from other districts will be permitted to stay at Kiphire town only for 12 hours for unloading. The house also informed that materials for the oxygen plant have arrived at Kiphire and it will take a month for the plant to be functional.
