Six Tobacco-Free Homes declared in Phek

PHEK, AUGUST 14 (MExN): The District Level Coordination Committee (DLCC) under the District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC), Phek, held a review meeting at the DC’s Conference Hall on August 11 chaired by Deputy Commissioner Rhosietho Nguori, NCS.

During the meeting, six Tobacco-Free Homes (TFH) were declared, and certificates were presented by the DC to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Avasiya Vidhyalaya Residential Home, Vision Open Shelter Home, and four private residences.

Nguori said it was the duty of every individual to create awareness about the ill effects of tobacco. The meeting discussed Tobacco Vendor Licensing and the effective implementation of Smoke-Free Office and Smoke-Free District initiatives.

Deputy Chairman of Phek Town Council (PTC), Chetezo Akami, briefed the meeting on the status of Tobacco Vendor Licences issued to traders. The DC suggested that in cases of violation of COTPA 2003, the Tobacco Enforcement Squad should inform the Town Council to take necessary action. He also proposed that during DPDB meetings, DTCC could make presentations on Smoke-Free Offices and reaffirm commitments to a smoke-free workplace.

District Nodal Officer of DLCC, Dr Pfukrolo Koza, presented the status of NTCP activities and stressed the need for greater coordination with stakeholders to reduce tobacco use and raise awareness. He said DLCC had been using platforms such as the Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (CBCC) and the Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) to reach out to the public.
