Dimapur, March 5 (MExN): A six-day skill training programme for rural youth on ‘Vermi-composting’ was held at Maova village from February 27 to March 3.

 


The programme was organised by KVK Dimapur and ICAR, Nagaland Centre in association with  ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), and National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Rajendranagar, Hyderabad.

 


The training programme was coordinated by Ch Roben Singh, Assistant Chief Technical Officer (Agronomy).

 


According to the organisers, 28 rural youths participated in the training. They were given both theory and practical training on methods and steps involved in vemicomposting. Selection of site, collection of wastes and sorting, preliminary treatment of composting materials, feeds for earthworm, filling of the vermin beds/tanks, preparation and maintenance of base culture, packaging and marketing, advantages of vermin-composting, how to use vermicompost and economics of the vermiculture unit etc were taught in the training.

 


The organisers also informed that certificates were distributed to the participants during the skill training programme.
