Skipper Jonathan Rongsen becomes first Nagaland cricketer to score first class ton

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 27 (MExN): Despite losing their sixth match to Bihar by a massive 273 runs, Nagaland Captain Jonathan Rongsen gave reason to cheer as he became Nagaland’s first cricketer to score a first-class hundred on December 25.


The 32 year old batsman’s 100 runs came of 113 balls. He hit 12 boundaries and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 88.50.


A native of Akhoya village in Mokokchung district, Rongsen made his first-class debut with Railways playing against Bihar in 2013.


According to his profile in espncricinfo.com, since then, his first-class match stats read: 13 matches, 697 runs with an average of 31.68 runs.


Thereafter, he has been associated with India, Railways, Central Zone, Belagavi Panthers, Mysuru Warriors, Shivamogga Lions, Nagaland as per cricbuzz.com profile. He transferred from Railways to Nagaland in 2018.


Rongsen made his T20s debut playing for Karnataka against Goa at Visakhapatnam on September 25, 2009. He was one of the most expensive players of Karnataka Premier League 2016.


The Nagaland skipper has been consistent throughout the state’s debut Ranji Trophy season, scoring one century and 7 half-centuries. A right-arm medium pacer, his wicket haul stands at 3 this season.


Nagaland has 1 win, 1 draw and 4 losses from six matches in the season. They next take on Arunachal Pradesh at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Sovima, Dimapur from December 30, 2018, to January 2, 2019.

Meanwhile, the Nagaland Under 19 team lost to Uttarakhand in the Cooch Behar (U-19) Boys league match at Dehradun, played from December 24 to 27. Nagaland lost by an innings and 137 runs.
In the CK Nayudu (U-23) trophy, Nagaland defeated Bihar by 56 runs in the men’s league match played at DSA ground Golaghat, Assam, from December 24 to 27.
