SKK stresses accountability, directs officials to remain at postings

Zunheboto, March 5 (MExN): The All Sümi Students’ Union (SKK) has directed government employees posted in Sümi-inhabited areas to report to their respective duty stations and discharge their responsibilities diligently, warning that continued absenteeism will invite strict scrutiny and action.

The directive was issued on March 5 during the union’s first executive meeting, where members reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that government employees serve sincerely at their designated postings to facilitate effective governance and development.

In a statement, the union said meaningful development can only be achieved when officials carry out their duties with integrity, dedication and a genuine sense of responsibility.

“Public office is a solemn responsibility and not a matter of personal convenience,” the union said, adding that when officers and staff remain absent from their duties without valid justification, the functioning of government institutions is severely affected.

It said such absenteeism disrupts essential services, delays administrative processes and obstructs developmental progress, ultimately affecting the public. “Such negligence is unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” the statement said.

The union directed all concerned heads of departments and government employees to immediately report to and remain at their respective postings to ensure proper execution of official responsibilities.

It warned that failure to comply would invite strict public scrutiny and the matter would be escalated to higher authorities for necessary disciplinary action.

The union further said it would not remain silent in the face of continued negligence and stressed that officers and staff are expected to uphold the highest standards of honesty, discipline and commitment in the discharge of their duties.

As part of its initiative, the union announced that it will conduct regular as well as surprise inspections of government offices in Sümi-inhabited areas.

Findings from these inspections will be formally documented and made public, while detailed reports will also be submitted to competent authorities with recommendations for action against those found absent without valid reason or failing to fulfil their responsibilities.

The union said the public deserves accountability, transparency and responsive governance, and reaffirmed its resolve to ensure responsibility, efficiency and proper functioning of government offices in the region.
