SLK refutes ‘outrageous’ allegations

Dimapur, November 6 (MExN): The Shikhu Lagha Kuposhukulu (SLK) has refuted as false the allegations “hurled by Dr. Mlato Shikhu and Chelsea Kaur/Kikon against the former's children, their uncle and his family, and the Shikhu Clan.” During a press conference on November 4, the duo made serious allegations against the family as well as the police, which were subsequently carried by local media outlets.

According to the SLK, the act of defaming one’s own family was “disgraceful and despicable.  “The public humiliation and character assassination of one’s own children to fit their schemes was unfathomable and something unheard of in any society,” stated a rejoinder issued by SLK Chairman Inato Y. Shikhu and Secretary Hetoli Shikhu.

The SLK further maintained that the accusations made by Chelsea were “imaginary and divisive,” as she does not even know the children personally, nor has she ever stepped foot into their home or had any idea about the dynamics of Dr Mlato’s family.

The outrageous allegations made by the duo had deeply hurt the children and family, prompting the rebuttal, it said.

“The Shikhu Clan is also of the view that this is a family matter stemming from the self-serving agenda of a stranger, which needs no attention from the general public, as it will unnecessarily drag the family and clan into further embarrassment for no fault of theirs,” it stated.

Further, the SLK pointed out that the case was under investigation, and the investigation agency be given a fair chance to do its job without disruption from any corner.

“The Shikhu Clan wants to make it clear that the clan had attempted to resolve the issue multiple times, but the duo dishonored the efforts,” it asserted.

The clan also conveyed its displeasure to the “local news channels” for covering the issue without proper investigation, further exacerbating the situation for the family and called for the “authenticity of the news and issues” before bringing out on public domain.
As reported by this newspaper on November 4, during the press conference, the couple, among other things, accused the police of “inaction” as well as “acting unfairly” in an issue involving property, a ‘stayed’ court marriage, alleged abduction and illegal detention, FIRs and counter FIRs.

The police, however, dismissed the allegations of inaction and bias as baseless. FIRs from both parties were accepted as required by law, the Commissioner of Police Dimapur stated, designating the issue a “family dispute.” The police also termed allegation of illegal detention and  questioning of identity as baseless.
