Small Family important for overall development

Kiphire, July 11 (MExN): With the rest of the world, Kiphire district today celebrated the World Population Day at the Police Point Kiphire under the theme ‘small family overall development’ with Deputy Commissioner Kiphire CM Tsanglao as chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner said, “of all the creation of God, men is the most beautiful creature, and it is our day and therefore, express greatness to be one of these beautiful creations of God.” Calling upon the gathering the DC mentioned that demographer says population double in 150 years’ time but in Nagaland it double in 10-15 years which is alarming and asked the gathering to take the message small family, overall development. Citing an example of Naga society the Deputy commissioner said, ‘Might is right at one point of time in Naga family but with the change of time it is no more relevant and advice the people gathered to adopt small family.
Dy CMO while welcoming the gathering said, ‘Poor health, climate change and poor economic condition are the result of unplanned family.’ He also added to create better future for the days ahead let’s all unit and work to adopt small family. Advisor KTC N Zhetovi and District TB officer also spoke on the theme ‘Family planning and population stabilization’. Evangelical Union Kiphire presented a skit titled ‘Family Planning’.
Tuensang: Tuensang district also observed the ‘World Population Day’ at CMO conference hall under the theme “Small Family: Overall Development”.
The programme was chaired by Deputy CMO Tuensang Dr. Thanghoi Lam. In a short speech District Education Officer (DEO) Tuensang Tohoshe Sumi talked on the imminent threats of growing population in the country and world at large.  Stating the importance of having a planned family, the DEO asserted on controlling population explosion to avoid economic, social and even environmental crisis. He advised the medical department to take steps on creating awareness among the people and even to school and college students so that they can be responsible parents in the future.
The speaker for the programme was Medical Officer (MO) Angangba PHC Dr. Philip who spoke on the significance of observing the World Population Day. He went on to talk about the factors leading to population growth and the need to create awareness among the people for population stabilization.
The programme was attended by other officials from the medical department. In line with the ‘World Population Day’, the medical department would be observing ‘Population Fortnight’ from July 11 to July 24. The district hospital Tuensang would be conducting free male and female sterilization camps and free Mother and Child Health (MCH) check-up. All public have been requested to come and avail the services.
