SML 3: Esa Warriors register record win; Chumou Veterans hold firm

Shamator, January 11 (MExN): Esa Warriors registered a record-breaking victory, while Chumou Veterans secured a disciplined win as the third edition of the Senior’s Masters League (SML) 3 continued with two matches on January 10.

In the third match of the tournament, Nzon CC won the toss and opted to field. 

Warriors capitalised on the decision, posting the highest total of the competition so far with 242 for 2 in 20 overs.

Alongba Pongen led the charge with a rapid 90 off 34 balls, falling just short of the tournament’s first century. He was well supported by Pankaj Ghosh, who struck 83 off 38 deliveries. The duo also recorded the highest partnership of the tournament, placing the Nzon CC bowling under sustained pressure.

In reply, Nzon CC were unable to cope with the Warriors’ bowling attack and were bowled out for 60.

Pongen capped off a strong all-round performance by claiming a five-wicket haul and was named Man of the Match.

In the second match, Chumou Veterans won the toss and elected to bat, posting 146 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs. 

Abenthung Lotha anchored the total with an unbeaten 54 off 43 balls, while Asu Sakhru provided momentum towards the end with 58 off 32 balls.

For Lhomithi SC, Yanpothung stood out with an all-round effort, claiming three wickets and scoring 21 runs.

During the chase, Khitilo Rengma (35 off 35 balls) and Hino Chishi (26 off 22 balls) attempted to stabilise the innings, but disciplined bowling from Chumou Veterans restricted the scoring and brought the chase to an end. 

Lotha was adjudged Man of the Match for his all-round contribution.
