Soil, water conservation training conducted

Dimapur, July 23 (MExN): A four day training programme was organized by IGNOU, Open University ICRTA, Agartala in collaboration with KVK Dimapur on soil and water conservation in a watershed at KVK Dimapur, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Medziphema, Jharnapani.
The programme was sponsored by department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, for extension functionaries of Agriculture and Horticulture department, KVK and project RA and SRF of ICAR Nagaland Centre w.e.f 20-23rd July 2011.
Participants were from three districts of Nagaland viz. Kohima, Dimapur and Peren. A total of 30 participants attended the training programme. Welcome address was delivered by Dr. Anamika Sharma, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Dimapur and inaugurated by Dr C Rajkhowa, Director, NRC on Mithun, ICAR.
Speaking on the occasion, he gave examples of Zabo and alder based farming system of Kikruma and Khonoma Village of Nagaland where farmers are harvesting the rain water and recycling it for paddy cultivation and paddy-cum-fish culture. Dr BB Sarkar, Senior Consultant, ICRTA, IGNOU, Regional Centre emphasized on soil and water conservation specially on shifting cultivation watershed areas followed by vote of thanks by James Kikon, SMS, Soil Science, KVK, Dimapur.
The resource persons were from SASRD, Medziphema, Nagaland University, KVK, Dimapur and ICRTA, IGNOU, Agartala. Valedictory function was held July 23 where feedback of the participants was received followed by distribution of certificates.
