Some acts of crime and righteousness

The pages of history are filled with crimes and pseudo righteousness, to mention some of them happened in the modern world – the American colonists took it as a wrong and a crime on the part of the British to rule them in the latter part of the 18th century. But it was a righteousness for the Americans to colonise and rule many places around the world. It was a crime for the Japanese to attack the American Pearl Harbour in 1941, but it was righteousness for Americans to drop Atom bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki of Japan in 1945. It was a crime for any Nation to wage war in others’ country, but it was a righteousness for Americans to wage war in Vietnam during early nineteen seventies.

It was a crime for Saddam Hussein to attack Kuwait in 1990, but it was a righteousness for George W. Bush to attack Afghanistan and Iraq. It is a crime for smaller Nations to possess nuclear bombs, but it is a righteousness for bigger Nations to possess as much nuclear weapons as they can produce.

It was a crime for Saddam Hussein to execute 148 persons in Dujail for assassination attempt on his life, but it was a righteousness for those leaders and persons in India who killed thousand of Sikhs when Indira Gandhi was assassinated in 1984. It was a crime for Saddam Hussein who killed thousand of Kurds who fight for self rule, but it is a righteousness for Indian leaders to kill lakhs of Nagas who are struggling for self-determination. It was a crime for the British to rule and oppress the Indians, but it is a righteousness for Indians to suppress the struggling peoples in the sub-continent with worst available means.

The self acclaimed BJP of India is very much critical of and against the American interference in Indian affairs, like US-India civil nuclear deal, but kept silent when Saddam Hussein was hanged at the behest of the USA .To my knowledge and concern George W. Bush has committed the highest crime in the modern time in wiping out almost the entire family of Saddam Hussein on mere apprehensions and in pre-emptive acts.
He targeted Saddam Hussein in a pre-emptive attack, his son Uday and Qusay were killed at the same time with a missile attack in July 2003 and some of his family members were made away with in one way or other.

I don’t say that Saddam Hussein is innocent. He might have committed many serious crimes and excesses. But his punishment has been too much to be imagined since he had been a leader of a sovereign nation. It would have been more appropriate had his politics and career been closed down by sending him in exile or banning him to participate in national politics instead of eliminating him physically and humiliatingly.

Me as a tiny creature with a high democratic turn of mind and great lover of freedom and justice, could not understand or fail to imagine the merciless intrigues of some U.S. leaders in the execution of the two most important Muslim leaders, namely, Z.A. Bhutto in 1979 and Saddam Hussein, this Dec (2006) .
