The Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) Kohima and Northern Maram Students' and Youth Organisation (NMSYO) held a brotherhood affirmation programme at AYO Monolith, Kisama on Monday.
SAYO President Metekhrielie Mejura said the purpose of the gathering was to uphold and keep the relationship alive throughout all coming generations. While terming the brotherhood affirmation as another remarkable history, Mejura said the affirmation will enable the communities to know the brotherhood that they have shared since time immemorial and understand each other deeper both at the personal level and as a group.
The affirmation, he added, is not only for issues at Kezoltsa, but the two communities will always be there for each other for any situation that may come up.
NMSYO, President P Karaiba also said that the communities had always upheld brotherhood since time immemorial and as part of the age-old brotherhood, he assured prayer and support during any good times or bad times. He avowed to maintain love among the people in the same way it is being accorded on the occasion.
The Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO) and Maram Khullen Senapati, Manipur reaffirmed their age-old brotherhood accord at Zhodi ground in Jakhama village, Kohima in November last year, declaring that “the Angami and the Maram people are meeting after 95 years to reaffirm the age-old relationship.”
It may be mentioned that the two communities back in 1926 held a brotherhood meet at Viswema village under SAPO area where they mutually agreed to support each other in the issue of safety and overall wellbeing of their people ‘until the end of heaven and earth.’
As part of the reaffirmation programme, SAYO presented an Angami traditional neck piece to the Maram brothers.
