Lephori | February 14 : At the recently concluded 30th Meet of the Phek District Sports Association (PDSA) held at Lephori Village from January 31 to February 9, several sport contingents expressed their discontentment over unexpected increased rate of locally available products informing that prices of the products were raised to triple or more on the third and fourth day of the tourney.
Despite the government and the tribal Hohos imposing ban on hunting and extraction of wildlife products, during the PDSA 30th Meet, vendors were selling the meat of wild animals on a large scale at an escalated price, taking the advantage of making a huge profit during the tourney.
According to sport contingents, wild animals were made available depending upon its demand at a reasonable rate on the first day. A deer weighing approximately 13 to 15 kilos were sold at the rate of 1200 to 1400 which was later hiked to 3000 to 3700 on the third and fourth day of the tourney and subsequently even the commodities viz; cigarette rate was enhance from 30 to 35 and furthermore (the rates were roughly obtained from sports delegate sources). The sources further disclosed that even the local pork, which was supposed to be sold at reasonable rate, was never made available.
The contingent while informing this correspondent stated that either village authority or the host officials (Kamaleah Area Sports Association-KASA) framed no concrete rate of commodities thereby forcing the contingents to suffer at the later part of the tourney.
Taking into the consideration of the same as serious matter, an umpire of the tourney said that the matter deserve to be tabled in the Business hour to avoid such problems in the near future. ‘Partaking in this kind of tourney automatically requires a handsome budget despite having meager source of income’.
Also taking care of sports contingents is never an easy matter he stated, adding that lack of fund was one of the major factors where the district was facing obstacle molding up the sportspersons to higher level as is deserved.
He further said that the new PDSA team should take up the matter under serious condition. No doubt, in view of prevailing multiple organizations in the present day, raising fund indeed becomes a major problem for the leaders specially in the sports sector, on the contrary there are several other ways to spend money from the treasury, he maintained. He urged the new team to pay heed attention in this regard to ease the problem and in the meantime paving better system in this regard.
