SSUD issues stern warning against bullying, harassment

Dimapur, August 20 (MExN): The Sangtam Students’ Union Dimapur (SSUD) has expressed deep concern over the rising incidents of bullying and physical assaults involving students, which are being widely circulated on social media.

“Such unruly conduct among students and youth is a matter of grave concern and a clear indication of an uncertain future,” the union stated in its press release.

The union has issued a stern warning that any individual from the community found indulging in or participating in such offences, including bullying and harassment, whether mental or physical, shall face strict disciplinary action as per the Union’s rules and regulations. “Such behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” it cautioned.

The union further asserted that it will not remain indifferent to cases of bullying or harassment directed at individuals from the community. Members of the community, particularly students who may be facing such challenges, are strongly encouraged to seek support by reaching out to school authorities, the Students’ Union, parents, or elders, it added.

SSUD also appealed to parents to actively guide their children and spread awareness against bullying and harassment, so that values of respect, discipline, and empathy are installed from an early age.

Further, SSUD has urged all educational institutions to establish accessible anti-ragging and anti-bullying cells. Institutions have also been called upon to conduct mass awareness programs highlighting the harmful effects and serious consequences of bullying, so as to foster a safe and supportive environment for all students.
