St Paul School, Noklak, emerged overall champion of the inaugural Inter-School Badminton Tournament organised by the Noklak District Badminton Association (NDBA) at the Multipurpose Indoor Stadium.

The two-day tournament was held from October 2 to 3 under the theme “Building Character, Nurturing Champions”, with students from six schools participating in the event.

The participating schools were St Paul School, Holy Angel School, Christian Higher Secondary School, Government Higher Secondary School, Government High School, Noklak Village, and Government High School, Penshe.

St Paul School secured the overall championship, marking the successful conclusion of the first inter-school badminton tournament in the district.

Addressing the inaugural programme, Puhan Khiamniungan, EAC, Noklak, highlighted the role of badminton and sports in promoting fitness, friendship and character development.

He urged the young participants to uphold sportsmanship, respect their opponents, work hard, win with humility and accept defeat gracefully.

 

Speaking on the theme “Building Character”, Khiamniungan said regular practice, discipline and participation in sports could help young people stay away from screen addiction, substance abuse and other distractions.

He also appealed to parents and teachers to give equal importance to sports, health and character alongside academics.

On “Nurturing Champions”, he said champions are developed through patience, scientific training and constant encouragement. He appreciated the NDBA officials and other well-wishers for their efforts in providing systematic badminton training to young players in the district.

Khiamniungan also formally declared the tournament open.

The inaugural programme began with an invocation pronounced by Mono Khiamniungan, Chaplain, PBCNT and DEF Noklak, followed by a welcome note from Shin Shiu, President, NDBA. Dangsoi C presented a special song.
