Peren, March 31 (MExN): The closing ceremony for St. Xavier College, Jalukie annual sports and games day was held on March 31 at Xaverite Stadium with Minister for Higher Education & Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along as special guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister commended Catholic institutions for their education policy for the upcoming youths in the State. He said many students who have passed out from Catholic institutions are leaders in many areas and praise worthy services are being rendered by them. He also encouraged the gathering to make sure that peace prevails in the land.

The Minister hoped that determined and hardworking students will come out of St Xavier College to rebuild the foundation of the people by being hard working. Imna Along also urged the students to be good citizens and be responsible citizen in maintaining peace and prosperity.

The function was also attended by DC Peren, Sentiwapang Aier, Advisor, SCERT, IPR & Village Guards, Toshi Wungtung and Bishop of Kohima, Rev Dr James Thoppil as the guests of honour.

Advisor, SCERT, IPR & VG, Toshi Wungtung while encouraging the students, mentioned that education is the manifestation of men and women to perfection and it also has a very wide circumference which requires mental and physical development. The Advisor also encouraged the students to keep up with good discipline and refrain from using drugs and alcohol while calling on them to be agents of peace and reconciliation in the society.

Other highlights included traditional dances; march past from the parade contingents and song performances by the students.
