KOHIMA, JANUARY 18 (MExN): A State Review Meeting was convened today to assess Nagaland’s preparedness for Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) and other Influenza-like Illnesses (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Illnesses (SARI), as well as to discuss the general surveillance of outbreak-prone diseases.

The meeting was attended by senior health officials, including Anoop Khinchi, Commissioner & Secretary, Government of Nagaland; Dr. E. Motsuthung Patton, Principal Director of the Department of Health and Family Welfare (DoHFW); Dr Akuo Sorhie, Mission Director of the National Health Mission (NHM); Dr. Mereninla Senlem, State Program Officer of NHM; District Surveillance Officers, Epidemiologists, Microbiologists, Data Managers, and members of the State IDSP (Integrated Disease Surveillance Program) team. A representative from development partner Nishtha Jhpiego was also present.

The State Nodal Officer of the IDSP provided an update on the program’s readiness and surveillance efforts concerning outbreak-prone diseases in the state.

In his address, Commissioner & Secretary Anoop Khinchi urged District Surveillance Units to heighten their vigilance in monitoring clusters of Influenza-like Illnesses and SARI cases. He emphasized that all hospitalized SARI cases must be followed up with testing at the designated laboratory for Nagaland, located at ICMR-Dibrugarh.

The meeting also focused on the recent Pan-India Mock Drill, which involved 663 public and private health units across Nagaland. The drill aimed to evaluate the state's preparedness and readiness to handle any public health emergencies.

During the review, key challenges and achievements from various districts were discussed, providing insights into the ongoing efforts to strengthen disease surveillance and control measures across Nagaland.
