Kohima, November 29 (DIPR): In compliance to the direction of the Hon’ble High Court’s judgement dated 21/10/2011 in WP (C) NO. 147 (K) 2011, and in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 25(1) of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2001, the Governor of Nagaland has directed that general elections to constitute the Municipal Councils and Town Councils in the State be held under the superintendence, control and supervision of the State Election Commission, and as per schedule to be decided and notified by the State Election Commission. Further, reservation of seats for women, as notified vide this Department’s Notification No. MAC/ HOME-9/ 2006(A) dated 16/11/2009 and Notification No. MAC/ HOME-9/2006(B) dated 16/1112009, under Section 23 A (1) of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2001 (Amended), will be affected in the ensuing general elections to the Municipalities.
