State govt asks GoI to continue CIC

Kohima, March 24 (MExN): The department of information technology and technical education has requested the Centre to continue assisting the Community Information Centres (CICs) in the state even after the lapse of five years as the centres are struggling to sustain themselves. The response of the Government of India is awaited, according to the annual administrative report of the department tabled at the just concluded budget session. Delhi has established CICs in all the 52 blocks of the state. It was agreed that the salaries of the CIC operators would be borne by the Government of India for five years and the day to day maintenance would be looked after by the state government. After this period which will lapse in 2007, the responsibility of funding and running the CICs would be the state’s.
