Kohima, October 19 (MExN): The State Government has set up a State Quality Control Board comprising a chairman and two members. The government appointed as chairman retired engineer-in-chief of NPWD N Chielie and members retired Secretary LT Konyak and retired Chief Engineer of PHE Khetovi Sumi, of the State Quality Control Board.
The board will have jurisdiction and powers in respect of inspection of projects, construction work that are being undertaken in the state by various government departments/undertaking etc, verify application of appropriate technological including testing libraries and see that the quality of materials being used in the construction or materials supplied to department are in accordance with specification or not.
The board is also to collect relevant statistics and other information as may be necessary in matters of any construction works, projects or supplied items of material in order to verify the quality of such materials for works. They would then submit an annual report to the Chief Secretary to the government of Nagaland. They would be required to draw attention to any recommendation made by it which may not have been accepted or acted upon by the concerned administrative authorities. The recommendations would then be placed before the Cabinet for review.
The board has started functioning in the old PWD (Housing), Chief Engineer’s office located at the PWD complex in Kohima.
The control board has requested all the heads of departments who are taking up construction/supply works in the state to submit details of all activities costing Rs. 5.00 crores and above, within November 15, 2011 to the chairman of the State Quality Control board.
