A three day long State Level Catch Them Young (CTY) Under-14 Sepaktakraw tournament got underway here today at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima under the aegis of the Directorate of Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland in collaboration with All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association (ANPSA).

Altogether, 11 districts, comprising Dimapur, Mokokchung, Peren, Kohima, Mon, Wokha, Longleng, Chümoukedima, Niuland, Phek and Zunheboto have registered for this tournament.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony as the special guest, Nini Sekhose, president ANPSA thanked the Department of Youth Resources & Sports for collaborating with ANPSA and bringing the private schools together for sporting events. 

“Event like this is not just about winning trophies but about building character, discipline, team work and confidence,” she said.

Describing Sepaktakraw as a beautiful game, skilful and involving full of energy, she said it combines strength with grace and team work.

In this, she called upon the school children to play with all their heart, respect opponent and never give up, no matter what the score is.

“The real champions are not only the one who lifts the trophy but the one who keep their spirit strong,” Sekhose said. Urging the school children to play hard with joy and fair, she said “Let this tournament be a celebration of sportsmanship, friendship and perseverance.”

Kethosituo Sekhose, Director, Youth Resources & Sports also exhorted the gathering. Earlier, the opening ceremony was chaired by Megolhu Dolie, Additional Director, Youth Resources & Sports while welcome address was delivered by Khriehutuo Tsira, Senior State Sports coach.

Meanwhile, the closing ceremony will take place on October 15 at 3:00 PM. Nagaland School Education & SCERT Advisor, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome will grace the occasion as the special guest. Nagaland Youth Resources & Sports Advisor, S Keoshu Yimkhiung will also exhort the gathering. The programme will be chaired by Kethosituo Sekhose, Director, Youth Resources & Sports while welcome address will be delivered by Anthony Ngullie, Commissioner & Secretary, Youth Resources & Sports, Govt of Nagaland.

Bithungo Kikon, Member ANPSA Sepaktakraw Committee and Ex-Officio Advisor ANPSA central will also deliver short speech.
