State level Flower Show cum competition held at Hortiscape Kisama

Adding a new flavour to the annual state level flower show cum competition at Hortiscape Kisama, the competition this year saw the inclusion of “vegetables” category and was held under the theme, “Flowers and vegetables.”

Addressing the prize distribution ceremony at Hortiscape Kisama, Akumla Chuba, IAS, Secretary, Department of Horticulture expounded on the theme and remarked that “beauty and nourishment goes hand in hand.”

She congratulated all the winners and also thanked all the participants even while commending their hard work. “When you grow flowers and vegetables, it shows your love and commitment. You not only bring beauty to the area but also nourishment,” she said. 

She exuded hope to see more flower growers participating in the state level exhibition in the coming years while observing that Horticulture is flourishing in the state. 

She further encouraged everyone to bring more beauty and nourishment by growing flowers and vegetables. 

Winners in different categories were presented with certificates and cash prizes during the ceremony. The flower show category included ferns and foliage/indigenous and exotic, cacti & succulents, orchids (indigenous), Orchid (hybrid), bonsai, perennial, annuals & biennials, flower arrangement (fresh), and flower arrangement (dry). 

The fruits category comprised of citrus, pineapple, banana, kiwi, others (including indigenous fruits), cabbage, squash and other cucurbits, pumpkin and gourds, leafy vegetables, carrot, raddish and knowledge khol, legumes, ginger and turmeric, large cardamom, garlic, leek and onions, and chive/scallions (khuvie), while the exotic and indigenous vegetables and spices category comprised of tree tomato and indigenous vegetables and spices.

There were 5 winners in each category including first, second, third and three consolation prizes each.
