State level RD quiz competition for VCS/VDBs

Kohima | March 4 : The members of the Village Councils and Village Development Boards in Nagaland have proved their capability and caliber towards effective implementation of different flagship programmes under the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.
This was reflected at the platform of the state level rural development quiz competition for VCs/VDBs here today at SIRD conference hall. The competition shows the participants having well verse with the various schemes being implemented in Nagaland through VDBs and Village Councils. The quiz competition figured 4 round- general question, Nagaland, abbreviation and buzzer. The questions surrounded various flagship programmes like National Rural Livelihood Mission, Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, IAY, National Rural Drinking Water Programme etc. 22 VDBs/VC members from 11 districts took part in the event.
Talking to The Morung Express, State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) director Limasenla Jamir, said the central government has many flagship programmes for the upliftment of rural areas that are being implemented by VDBs/ Village Councils in the state, which needs to be propagated properly. The quiz competition is part of the training methodology for village councils and VDBs and also to increase the height of awareness among them on flagship programmes/schemes under the Ministry of Rural Development. Impressed by stiff competitiveness among the participants, she said that she was delighted to see the amount of knowledge the members possesses on various schemes. She exuded confidence that the VCs/VDBs who equipped themselves with the basic information on various schemes will go a long ways in translating the desired goal and objectives of the flagship programmes. Further, she said the winners will represent the state at the National Level Competition. However, the date is yet to be confirmed from the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.
Meanwhile, Dimapur district with 71 points stood first position while Wokha district (65 points) and Zunheboto district (62 points) emerged second and third position respectively.
Dimapur district was represented by Tali Pongener and Vetoi Chisi, Wokha district by Mhondamo Shitri and Chumbemo Lotha and Zunheboto by Kakishe and Ikuto. Other participants includes; Mokokchung- Aochuba and Imti, Kohima- Neisa Zashumo and Rokoketuo, Mon- Wanmei Konyak and Pangkei Konyak, Kiphire- Sethricho Sangtam and Setsacho Sangtam, Tuensang- Setsa and Selongmong, Peren- Akebo and Niucham, Phek – Rokho and Philip, Longleng- Shamshih and Shongwei. The prize money for first position - Rs. 50,000 was sponsored by parliamentary secretary for rural development & REPA S. Pangnyu Phom, while 2nd and 3rd prize at Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 20,000 was sponsored by V. Sakhrie, commissioner & secretary rural development and Limasenla Jamir, director, SIRD respectively.
Kethosetuo Mepfuo acted as quiz master. The Quiz Competition was organized for the first time in Nagaland by SIRD in collaboration with DDK Kohima. Presently, there are 52 rural development block, 1128 VDBs and 1347 villages as per 2001 census in Nagaland.
