Stop bloodshed: Women appeal to Naga UGs

Dimapur, June 25 (MExN): The Naga Women’s Union of Manipur today expressed grief and anguish at what it called “fratricides” as the one that took place in Haochong village and in the town of Tamenglong in Manipur on June 21 between various underground groups.

A message from the union received here today stated: “NWU ardently appeal to all Naga armed groups not to inflict anymore harm on innocent people. We condemn the acts of crime, killing of your brothers, making your village and town killing fields. We will not tolerate at all such savage act of crime. Your mothers, sisters and daughters mourn with bitter cry over the deaths of their children, dear and near ones whether they be civilians or undergrounds. You are given birth by your mother, the heart of a mother is the same for all children.”

Stating that “our society is doomed now on the way to destruction,” the union said families have been shaken, children’s education deeply affected and the people’s socio-economic conditions have worsened affecting all lives. “Many women have become widows at very young age with the responsibilities of parenting their children and managing their families that they are living without proper food and sleep.

Many children became orphans. Children are forced to earn for livelihood when they are supposed to be in schools,” the union stated.

If the situation continues, the NWU stated, there will be ‘no future for your next generations.’ The union appeals to the armed groups to hear the cries of the people and “stop shedding blood in our land for the sake of your dear ones at home.”
