DIMAPUR, APRIL 10 (MExN): The Naga Peoples’ Movement for Human Rights Delhi has strongly condemned the act of an unidentified revolutionary group attacking the only Naga Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), Mani Charenamei. He is the only MP elected from outer Constituency of Manipur which is, mainly the tribal areas of Manipur State.
In a press communiqué issued by R S Mayori and Kent S Chara Convenor and Co-Convenor of NPMHR Delhi respectively it was pointed out that they had learned from reliable source that demand for a sum of three lakhs rupees was made to him earlier. “The bomb did not explode but it was a message to him to meet their demand or else - face the consequence”, it stated and held the Government of Manipur as solely responsible for this incident not for providing ample security to the MP knowing the fact that there was an attack in the past.
“The mores of threatening people, looting people, terrorizing innocent people is an alien culture to the Nagas. The recent act of some unidentified revolutionary groups has made many of us skeptical of their commitment to their cause”, the NPMHR Delhi unit stated and expressed concern that this was not the first time that the MP had been attacked with bomb threat.
The statement also urged the responsible organisation to stop terrorizing people in the name of revolution. “We appeal to the entire responsible organisation to refrain from this type of obnoxious behavior in future for the sake of humanity.
We appeal to the entire organisation to stop harassing our only MP from Manipur as he is truly the peoples’ MP and we have no one but the one and only him especially in Delhi, who look after all our affairs. He is the voice for the voiceless person and he is dear to us”.
It also cautioned that in future if any untoward incident occurred again then it will be compelled to take its own course of action and pointed out that Ibobi’s Government will be responsible for the entire episode.
