Addressing the concern on young Naga entrepreneurs failing to grow their business due to rampant taxations, Neichute Doulo, CEO & Coordinator of Entrepreneurs Associates said that the issue of taxation is the negligence of the State government and “it is really a wonder why it is allowing this to happen.”
During the felicitation cum career guidance programme organized by New Reserve Youth Organization (NRYO) at Police Union Baptist Church on August 21, Doulo said, “it is even bewildering to see even the Naga National Workers resorting to unreasonable taxation when they themselves know that it is hampering the growth of our people. This is borderline wrong but then again this is our reality.”
However, even if this trend continues to exist and it might continue in the near future, it does not mean our business will die because of extortion, he asserted while speaking to a total of 109 student from New Reserve colony who recently passed the HSLC & HSSLC exams.
“Considering the fact that businesses of people from mainland are thriving despite the rampant taxation, this might be the cue for us to start identifying the problem within us,” he pointed out. “Our failure in entrepreneurship may not just be because of the unabated taxation, our failure must be because of our mindset, of our refusal to give our best, of our refusal to work hard. I know that the rampant taxation by Naga National workers in Nagaland is one genuine reason for the entrepreneurs to get discouraged but we should stop using it as an excuse to resign from your passion and admit defeat,” Doulo added.
Earlier, he said, “The definition of success for a Naga is government job and failure is not having one but the time has come to think differently, as it is the need of the hour.” Doulo observed that in Naga society, “We have all been conditioned and groomed to think that government job is the only job available after studies.”
He clarified that there is nothing wrong in wanting a government job as long as one has the determination to serve people but the reality of government jobs in Nagaland is for its lenient policies on its employees. ‘One may never step into an office but gets paid through his lifetime, this is our reality and it is amazing that we have come to accept this as normal,’ he added.
On the importance of looking beyond government job, Doulo opined that though the youths are willing to take up private jobs, the parents will take time to understand that the corporate world is even better than government sector as “they have not seen the corporate world.”
Kenieno Thorie who secured the Top 1 position in the HSLC 2021 and Chairman of New Reserve Panchayat, Vikehiekho Kintso also spoke during the programme.
