Dimapur, March 3 (MExN): With an aim to create awareness on malaria disease prevention, the members of Dreamz Unlimited performed a street play at Nuiland on March 3. The same play was previously presented at Doyapur in the month of November, 2010.
The street play is being organised by the National Rural Health Mission, Nagaland as part of their programme to create awareness on malaria prevention and improve the general health of the rural population. The play is written and performed by members of Dreamz Unlimited.
A group of nine actors portrayed different roles to depict a story. The play is directed by the members of Dreamz Unlimited and attracted huge crowds in both the occasion.
The play depicts the story of a village in a very comical manner where most of the people fall sick throughout the year because they never use mosquito nets, except the family of village chairman. The villagers use the mosquito nets issued by the government for fishing and as fencings around their garden. Later, a health worker from the department visits the village and explains to the villagers about malaria disease. Being made aware of the danger of the disease, the villagers ask question and clear heir doubts.
The play concludes on the note to use mosquito nets, allow the department to spray IRS whenever they come as treated mosquito nets placed around your bed significantly reduce the risk of infection., do not let water remain stagnant in your compound, go for blood test if there is any symptoms of the disease and if you have any fishery pond than get/rear a special kind of fish which eats mosquito’s eggs which they lay in the pond.
Very recently, street play is being popularized as an important medium to propagate social and political messages and to create awareness amongst the masses regarding issues. Street plays are also effective as it breaks the formal barriers and approaches the people directly.
