Chuchuyimlang, February 12 (MExN): Students from the Centre for Gandhian Studies & Research, Nagaland University in collaboration with the Peace Coalition of Northeast India (PCNI) visited the Nagaland Gandhi Ashram at Chuchuyimlang town under Mokokchung district on February 11, 2011 as part of a practical study tour. The tour was led by the Coordinator of NU Gandhian Studies & Research, Dr Arenla Mollier.
The trip which was fully sponsored by the Nagaland University Centre for Gandhian Studies and Research turned out to be very educative for the students as they got the opportunity to interact with prominent Gandhian follower Natwar Thakkar and also tour the Regional Institute of e-learning and Information Technology (RIeLIT) and the IGNOU Centre for Social Works. 79 year old Natwar Thakkar who established his Nagaland Gandhi Ashram way back in 1955 during the heights of Naga freedom movement, shared some of his experiences and works in Chuchuyimlang and also in Nagaland.
Thakkar while expressing happiness to the Chuchuyimlang villagers for being so cooperative and generous donations of land, said that it was because of the support of the Chuchuyimlang villagers that the Nagaland Gandhi Ashram could establish the RIeLIT at Chuchyimlang; the institute is a fully Central Government funded institute and students are trained and educated about information technology and computer software and hardware. Besides, he also said that it was the generous donation of land by the Chuchuyimlang villagers that the Nagaland Gandhi Ashram could negotiate with the Indria Gandhi National Open University to start a Masters course in Social Work at Chuchuyimlang; classes for the course has already begun.
For the Gandhian students of Nagaland University interacting with the veteran Gandhian follower was an eye-opener and a window to the simple, dedicated and principled life of Mahatma Gandhi who dedicated his life for the people, irrespective of caste, creed, sex or religion.
