Students in Mon town missing classes due to lack of transportation: WGCSU

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 29 (MExN): Students of Wangkhao Government College, under Mon district are missing classes due to lack of sufficient buses to ferry students to the college.

Wangkhao Government College is located more than 5 kilometers away from the main Mon town. And with majority of the students studying in the college coming from economically poor background, they cannot afford their own transportation. The students therefore solely depend on the college bus for conveyance.

While the college has more than 400 students, the disparity is stark as there are only 2 buses which make a minimum of 6 trips every morning. The last trip reaches the college only at 10:30 am. And by that time, two classes are already over.

Against this backdrop, the Wangkhao Government College Students’ Union (WGCSU) has made an appeal to the Director, Directorate of Higher Education, Kohima to intervene immediately and provide adequate number of buses to transport the students from home to college.

It also pointed out that despite repeated request made to the concerned department, except for verbal assurances, the buses are yet to be provided. The students union reminded that so long as this issue of lack of adequate transportation remains, quality education will only be a distant dream for the students.
