Kohima, August 17 (MExN): The Sumi Baptist Church Kohima on Sunday marked the Pre-Centenary Celebration of its Youth Department with Rev. Zuhokhu Kiba, Former Pastor of the church, delivering the sermon as the guest speaker. The event was observed with spiritual fervour and enthusiasm, setting the tone for the Centenary Jubilee Celebration.
In his sermon, Rev. Kiba said that the attainment of 100 years of Centenary Jubilee Celebration signifies the maturity of the church's spiritual growth. He added that Jubilee is “a celebration of new beginnings, renewal of Christian life, and a time for recommitment and dedication to Christ.” Drawing from the biblical story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who refused to worship other gods despite being thrown into the fire, he underscored the importance of strong faith in God.
He further said that youth involvement in the church is of utmost importance, noting that Jesus had chosen 12 young disciples from diverse backgrounds to serve in His ministry. Reverend Kiba exhorted the youths “to serve in ministry, lead the church, and spread the gospel,” while also stressing the need for social and spiritual reformation in the community. He appealed to the Sumi community “to bring about social and spiritual reformation, leveraging the Centenary Jubilee Celebration as an opportunity for growth and prosperity.”
The service was chaired by Akuto Achumi, Associate Pastor of Youth, while praise and worship were led by former Worship Team members. Greeting messages were delivered by Kiheto Jhimo, IAS (Retd), and Kashito Yeptho, former youth leaders. Y Kikheto Sema, IAS, Chairman of the Centenary Planning Board, also presented Centenary certificates to invitees.
In the evening service, the sermon was delivered by Samuel Shohe, a former youth leader, who shared a powerful message that further inspired the congregation.
The Pre-Centenary Celebration is part of the year-long programmes leading up to the Centenary Jubilee Celebration of the Sumi Baptist Church Kohima, which will mark a century of faith, service and community engagement.
