Mokokchung, July 7 (MExN): A summer camp for Arju Centres organized by the Ao Students’ Conference is underway at Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung. The camp commenced on July 6 and will culminate on July 8.

The Arju Centres are instituted in twelve villages under Mokokchung district, and they are an innovative education initiative of the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) under the aegis of the Nagaland Education Mission Society, Samagra Shiksha, Nagaland.

The main objective of instituting the Arju Centers was to help the students discover and develop their skills. It is an initiative to uphold and promote culture and traditions and the development of life skills for their future aspects and prospects.

On the first day of the camp, the campers were welcomed with an introductory and icebreaker session and a talk on the ‘Introduction to Astrophysics’ by Dr Abhijit Borah and I N Moa Jamir. On the second day, the campers, 69 of them, from 12 Arju centers started their day by conducting a green audit, where they collected waste and plastics and were audited under the initiative of the Young Women Christian Association, Mokokchung.

The campers were given talks on different topics, which included Livestock farming as an entrepreneurial enterprise by Bendangonen and his wife; Writing skills by Bendangsenla Longkumer, Associate Professor, FAC, and Teaching of Math by Supongmenla Jamir, Lecturer, DIET, Mokokchung. 

The mentors of the Arju Centres were also given a talk on Pedagogical skills.

The second day concluded with a cultural show. The camp will culminate on 8 July after a session on ‘Skilling a Future’ by Er T Imlisunep Ao, Principal, ITI, Mokokchung.
