
Naga Hoho submits collective concerns to Pranab Mukherjee
DIMAPUR, MAY 14 (MExN): The Naga Hoho has asked the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, who is on a visit to Nagaland, to intervene in bringing about an honorable and peaceful solution to the Indo-Naga conflict. The Naga Hoho in a representation submitted to the President has mentioned about the background of political talks between the different Naga political groups and Government of India since the signing of the ceasefire in 1997. The Naga Hoho representation was signed by Keviletuo Kiewhuo, President and P. Chuba Ozukum, General Secretary.
The Naga Hoho also reminded the President on the political and military strife that continues unabated between India and Nagas. “We would greatly appreciate and expect your kind intervention to bring about an honorable and peaceful solution to the Indo-Naga Conflict,” stated the Naga Hoho.
As the Supreme Commander of the armed forces in India, the Naga Hoho has also drawn the attention of the President to what it described as “the anti-peoples military law, the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), that has not only given unrestricted military power over peaceful civilians but have also dehumanized Naga humanity.” The President was urged “to remove such draconian laws as has been demanded in the past too.”
In other significant submission, the Naga Hoho called on the President to support “institution building for human development of the region” and to honor the wishes of the, by allocating one Medical college and one Engineering college for the State of Nagaland. The Naga Hoho expressed appreciation to the involvement of the President in visiting the Nagas and hoped that under his leadership, the visit will translate into a new future.
