Suspended ‘razu peyu’ of NSCN (K) Neilie Vero was apprehended by the Phek Town Youth Society (PTYS) under the directive of Phek Town Public Welfare Union (PTPWU) on June 8 on the charges of manhandling and demanding ransom from a non-local shopkeeper at Phek Town on June 3.
According to president of PTYS Neilhite Akami and president of PTPWU K. Shevotso Rhakho, the apprehended extortionist was presented before the residents of Phek Town during Phek Town Public meeting on June 9 at the premises of Phek Town Clock Tower.
Terming the act of a suspended cadre as nothing more than “a man of greed with no patriotic spirit”, the public in its meeting unanimously sought the concerned government to terminate the culprit from the active national service with immediate effect. Failing to comply with the public’s demand, non-cooperation would be initiated against the NSCN-K government.
The two leaders on behalf of the entire denizens of the town, informed that it would firmly stand against all forms of anti-social elements in around the town, be it of Naga political groups or whatsoever, adding that it would never leave a room for anyone who intend to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the town.
Taking into an account of the various taxations imposed upon to the public by the different Naga political groups, the prices of the essential commodities were exorbitantly soaring high day by day, thereby forcing the lives of the public to a miserable state and indeed the patience of the public was almost eaten up, asserted Akami and Rhakho.
Also, more than 25 different forms of taxations were being imposed to the public by the Naga National functionary(s) in the district head quarter. Expressing its resentment over the various taxations, the public of the day meeting shouting with a slogan, ‘it is never an expectation of any government to be fed from the sweats and toils of a hard working persons specially in the form forcible taxation and extortion’, adding that it would not remain as mute spectators from now on, rather it would go forward with legal resort and agitations if such continues.
With a strong wave of the public voice, the organizations strongly urge the Naga national worker(s) to immediately stop all kinds of illegal taxation thereby paving way out for the public to lead a live of freedom and liberty. The public in its meeting, resolved to impose non-cooperation to any Naga national functionary(s) on failing to abide with the mandate demand of the public in Phek Town.
Apart from the public meeting, the PTYS and PTPWU along with the entire frontal organization(s) of Phek town organized a rally on the same day in protest against extortionist Neilie Vero at Clock Tower and marched towards the Phek Police Station and subsequently handed over the culprit to Police for necessary interrogation and imprison him thereof.
On the memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Phek, it has warned that if Neilie is granted bail, the district administration will be held responsible for the whole episode in case any eventuality(s) is meted out to the culprit.
The Deputy Commissioner, Phek Nikhashe Sema, while lauding the joint efforts of the public further assured that the district administration would be at all times behind the public and would extend its support towards the public.
