KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 18 (MExN): The Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan (SNSPA), a nationwide health initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, on September 17, was rolled out in Nagaland with district-level programmes held at Longleng and Tizit in Mon district on Wednesday. The campaign will continue across the country till October 2.

At Longleng, the District Health Society organised the launch at District Hospital with Deputy Commissioner W. Manpai Phom, NCS, as the special guest. Medical Superintendent Dr. Lanuakum, in his keynote address, said the campaign would transform women’s health through free medical checkups, immunisation, anaemia and tuberculosis testing, malaria screening, and specialised consultations. He said the initiative also seeks to promote nutrition, wellness, infant and young child feeding, and menstrual hygiene awareness.

DC Longleng Phom said the Abhiyaan is expected to significantly improve key health indicators, particularly maternal mortality, by addressing gaps identified in national health surveys and by enhancing access to specialist medical services in rural and urban areas. He assured administrative support and urged community participation for the campaign’s success. The programme also featured focused group discussions on menstrual hygiene, family planning, anaemia, maternal and child health, and breastfeeding.

In Mon district, Rajya Sabha MP S. Phangnon Konyak launched the district-level programme at CHC Tizit. Addressing the gathering, she said the Abhiyaan reflects the government’s commitment to citizen welfare under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. She urged community leaders to spread awareness and encourage maximum participation, noting that “taking care of one’s own household is also a form of nation building.”

Short speeches were delivered by SDO (C) Tizit Tumben Tsanglao and HCMC Chairman Penkham. The programme was chaired by Surveillance Worker Alih, with the invocation by Pastor Wennyei Konyak. Dr. Ngopelo Keviechu, DPO CD II Mon, and Dr. Taliwati, MO CHC Tizit, gave the welcome address and vote of thanks, respectively. A health camp was also held to provide consultations and services to the public.

Both Longleng and Tizit gatherings joined the national virtual launch of the campaign addressed by the Prime Minister.
