KOHIMA, JUNE 5 (MExN): Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, released the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules Handbook 2026, issued by the PHED Urban Division, Kohima, during a programme held at the Deputy Commissioner's Office Chamber, Kohima, on June 5.
The handbook, prepared in both English and Hindi, was distributed to representatives from 10 villages in Kohima district.
Addressing the programme, Buchem said waste had often been disposed of indiscriminately in the past, resulting in environmental and public health concerns. He informed that the Supreme Court has mandated proper segregation of waste at source and that failure to comply with the guidelines is punishable under the prescribed regulations.
He stressed the need to adopt scientific waste management practices and create awareness at the community level. Highlighting the four categories of waste segregation, Buchem urged village representatives to disseminate the information among the public to ensure effective implementation of solid waste management measures across the district.
The programme was attended by the Executive Engineer, PHED, department officials and village representatives.
