Sendenyu, September 21 (MExN): The Sendenyu Youth Organization (SYO) has expressed deep anguish and issued its strongest condemnation over what it described as a “reckless and shameful” incident that took place on the morning of September 19 at around 9:00 AM along Secretariat Road, Kohima.
In a press statement, the SYO said a Maruti 800 under the influence of alcohol, rammed into a two-wheeler, leaving a woman rider critically injured and “battling for her life.”
It made clear that “driving under the influence of alcohol is a criminal act that endangers lives and cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.”
It termed the incident “a matter of grave irresponsibility and utter disregard for public safety,” and said such behaviour “is a stain on our society.”
“The law must take its full and immediate course of action to ensure justice for the victim, accountability of the offender, and deterrence against future occurrences,” the organization stated. It reiterated that “public roads are not private playgrounds” and warned that “those who choose to recklessly violate safety norms must face strictest legal consequences.”
The organization demanded that the authorities “deal with the matter with the seriousness and urgency it deserves.”
