Punjab began their campaign with a commanding display at the Dr Talimeren Ao Junior Girls’ National Football Championship 2025–26 (Tier 2), defeating Andaman & Nicobar 20-0 in the opening Group B match at the Chümoukedima Football Stadium on November 22.
Punjab scored ten goals in each half, showcasing their attacking strength and clinical finishing. Standout performers included Joya, who netted seven goals, Gurleen Kaur with six, Harmeen Kaur with three, Jaskaran Kaur with two, and Jaismeen Kaur with one.
In the second Group B match, host Nagaland went down 1-3 against Uttarakhand. Nagaland took an early lead in the 4th minute through Zemloi T Kony, but Uttarakhand struck back with goals from Khushi Pal (17’ and 38’) and Anshika Maratha (25’). Despite spirited efforts in the second half, the hosts could not break the deadlock.
With Punjab’s scintillating start, the task looks uphill for the host side in Group B.
A total of 13 sides, divided into four groups, are vying for promotion to Tier 1 in the next edition of the championship in Chümoukedima.
The championship is structured in two tiers, with top-performing Tier 2 teams competing for promotion to Tier 1, while the lowest-ranked Tier 1 teams face relegation. The Tier 1 championship is concurrently underway at RDT Stadium, Anantapur Sports Village, Andhra Pradesh.
