Take action on reckless driving; public safety cannot be compromised, JCF says

Dimapur, February 9 (MExN): The Joint Council Forum has expressed concern over the persistent reckless and high-speed movement of vehicles along the Tajen Ao Road, a vital arterial stretch in the heartof Dimapur town.

In a statement issued today, the forum highlighted that despite the road passing through densely populated residential areas, commercial hubs, schools, educational institutions, and churches with continuous pedestrian activity, vehicles including heavy trucks, dumpers, sand carriers (during permitted hours), and smaller vehicles, “continue to overspeed with “blatant disregard for traffic norms and public safety.”

The forum stated that this has transformed the stretch into a “highlydangerous zone, a reality underscored by the recent tragic loss of two innocent lives in acollision involving a motorcycle and a bicycle, an entirely preventable incident.”

The Joint Council Forum has urged concerned authorities to take “immediate and decisive action” to address the issue. Key demands include strict enforcement of speed limits, regulation of heavy vehiclemovement through populated areas, installation of warning signage and traffic-calmingmeasures and deployment of traffic personnel during vulnerable hours.

“Public safetycannot be compromised,”it stated, emphasising “intervention is essential to prevent further loss oflife and restore safety and order on this road.”
