Take the lead in eradicating ‘backward tag’

DIMAPUR, ARPIL 22 (MExN): In collaboration with the department of employment and craftsmen training, the Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union Dimapur (ENSUD) organised a seminar on career guidance at IMC Conference Hall Dimapur.

Guest of honour, Thumlong Phom ENPO general secretary sought to clarify any misconceptions that Eastern Nagas were demanding separate state because of frustration and disillusionment. “We are not frustrated or disillusioned and we have no confusion in our demand because we have our historical rights,” he said. Phom said although the word ‘backward’ has become frequently used to describe the Eastern Nagas, he urged them not to seriously consider such description and create unnecessary inferiority complex for themselves. He also urged them to take advantage of the job quotas given to them. He expressed the hope that the students would be benefitted out of the seminar.

President of Sangtam Union Dimapur, Kashiho Sangtam said the ‘backward’ people were getting privileges out of the particular tag but added it was high time that the youngsters take the lead in eradicating such names. He said those people who were born and brought up in towns have equal chances and opportunity to compete with the general class and urged them to be role models for their fellow brothers in remote areas.

The seminar was held under the theme, “Reinvigorate youths” with ‘competitive examinations,’ ‘information technology,’ ‘judicial system’ and ‘entrepreneurship & third sector jobs’ as the main topics.
